Handmade Stoneware Jarrito for Mezcal, Margaritas, and the Home Bar

Rounded body, flared lip, bold glaze. This jarrito is hand-thrown stoneware shaped after the traditional Mexican clay vessel — the kind you’d find holding a cold cantarito at a roadside stand in Jalisco. Made in a small Colorado studio from scratch-made clay and custom glaze recipes, fired to cone 6 (~2230°F) so the clay vitrifies fully and the glaze locks in hard.

The form is rooted in the jarrito tradition: wide belly, slightly pinched base, and a rim that opens just enough to let the aroma of whatever you’re drinking meet you first. At 16 oz, there’s room for a full mezcal margarita build — spirit, citrus, salt rim, ice — without crowding the pour. The wall thickness keeps the drink cold longer than a standard ceramic mug would.

Glazes run warm earth tones to vivid greens and deep blues. Each piece is glazed by hand, and the kiln does the rest — subtle shifts in hue, gloss, and surface texture from one mug to the next. No two are identical. That variation isn’t a flaw; it’s the whole point of handmade barware.

Mezcal Gift That Actually Gets Used

A jarrito is the right vessel for mezcal cocktails — culturally grounded, the right size, and built to handle daily use. As a mezcal gift, that specificity matters. Anyone can give a rocks glass. A handmade jarrito de barro signals that you know something about the ritual, not just the drink.

Ships with plastic-free kraft and twine gift wrapping and an optional handwritten note — leave your message at checkout. Works as a standalone mezcal gift or paired with a cocktail gift set for a more complete bar setup.

For bar programs, the jarrito format reads instantly on a menu — guests recognize the shape, which does some of the storytelling for you. The color variation means a row of them on the rail looks curated rather than mass-produced. Available for wholesale inquiry if you’re outfitting a program.

What to Pour

The 16 oz capacity and flared rim work across a range of drinks:

  • Mezcal margaritas and spicy mezcal builds
  • Classic cantaritos (tequila, citrus, grapefruit soda)
  • Agua fresca, iced tea, or cold brew
  • Café de olla or hot chocolate — microwave safe

The design handles hot and cold. Dishwasher safe. Practically indestructible for everyday barware use.

About Each Piece

Every jarrito is cast in hand-manufactured molds from scratch-made clay, bisque-fired, hand-glazed, and fired a second time to vitrify. Slight variation in glaze pattern, color depth, and form between pieces is expected and celebrated — it’s the mark of artisan craft, not a production inconsistency.

Handmade mezcal barware that holds up, pours well, and means something. That’s the standard.
